    Lorie Kaufman-Rees

is a transformational coach, professional counselor, speaker, free-lance writer , and former pastor who blogs about living all-out in spite of your limits at functionalish.com, a blog for those who struggle with chronic pain and illness and the uncertainty they bring about one’s calling, worth, and future.

With dual master’s degrees in Marriage and Family Therapy and Clinical Counseling and over three decades of experience, Lorie is a gifted and knowledgeable communicator with the practical, personal, and professional experience necessary to speak into the lives of men and women today.

Lorie continues to write and speak regularly at her church of 9,000 on a wide range of spiritual and personal topics relevant to women, couples, and families.

Diagnosed with ME/CFS  in her 40s, Lorie has dealt with chronic pain and fatigue most of her own adult life before her daughter was also diagnosed at the age of 15. Her experience with chronic illness as a parent, a patient, and a professional reach beyond the textbook into the very fabric of her everyday life, giving her a unique perspective on what it truly means to be “functional.”

  • Somewhere between a geek and a nerd,

Lorie characterizes herself as having a healthy dose of quirk and just enough neuroticism to keep things interesting. She and her husband live in the heart of the Midwest with their two ALMOST adult children, where their lives resemble the mash-up of an 80’s sitcom and a Broadway musical. When Lorie has the time (and energy), she enjoys going to the bathroom alone, hiking in the mountains, singing in a choir, making jewelry, scrapbooking, dating her husband, and reading a book in peace. Preferably in one sitting. The book, that is.

She’s done each once in the last twenty-one years.
