• Meet the Fam!

    I love these people.

People say a lot of corny and hyperbolic things about the people they love. I promise I won’t do that here. I will only speak the honest-to-God truth.

    Which is this:

These are the BEST. PEOPLE. EVER.

We’ve been through hell together, but it’s only brought us closer. I could not be more grateful.

  • My Hubby

Tom and I met in freshman orientation.

I thought he was cute, but kind of a geek.

Thirty-two years later, I still think the same.

Tom has a master’s in marketing and communications and works in the corporate world. He’s an avid runner (which I STILL do not understand), a phenomenal first tenor, my favorite travel companion, and the best wife a sick girl could ever ask for. Through it all, he’s still the one.

  • The Kiddos

    These Two

Since you’ve already read about Sissy, I’ll tell you about Bud.

Korey is a senior in high school and is honestly one of the nicest young men you’ll ever meet.

    Really.

Next year he’ll leave the nest to go study forensic psychology and national security with the hopes of perhaps someday working for the FBI. He’s got his father’s lovely tenor voice, plays the flute, loves musical theater, D&D, post-apocalypic literature, and MTG, and is a leader both at school and at church.

All potential girlfriends must pass a stringent interview process with his mother.

An 80's Sitcom and A Broadway Musical

"People don't just go around singing in four-part harmony," my friend said. "They do TOO!" I replied. "No, Lorie," he said, looking at me pityingly, "that's only YOUR FAMILY."
  • Embrace the Awkward (Like, REALLY Awkward)

    Always willing To

Embrace the Awkward (Like, REALLY Awkward)

Um, YEAH. That would be us. Laughing too loud. Making the joke no one else gets. Talking about science while everyone else is talking about football. We're a little on the weird side.
  • Just A Little Bit on The Silly Side

    Sometimes you gotta be

Just A Little Bit on The Silly Side

The thing we love to do together most of all is LAUGH. A LOT. Which is good, because we're all SUPER GOOFY. (And perhaps just the TINIEST BIT on the sarcastic side!)
  • Chronic illness may have changed our lives in a dramatic way,

    But it doesn’t DEFINE us.

We’re all still the same people we were over ten years ago—two of us are just a little toned down at times. And that’s okay.

It’s been a hard road, and the journey has only just begun.

But I wouldn’t trade the people—the FAMILY—that journey has caused us to become.

    Because I LIKE us.

    I like us a LOT.
