i don’t remember meeting this author…

…but somehow she knows me…

Unseen, Unsought, and Uncertain

I know I am not alone in this nagging sense of failing to measure up, a feeling of not being good enough as a woman. Every woman I’ve ever met feels it—something deeper than just the sense of failing at what she does. An underlying, gut feeling of failing at who she is. I am not enough, and, I am too much at the same time. Not pretty enough, not thin enough, not kind enough, not gracious enough, not disciplined enough. But too emotional, too needy, too sensitive, too strong, too opinionated, too messy. The result is Shame, the universal companion of women. It haunts us, nipping at our heels, feeding on our deepest fear that we will end up abandoned and alone.

    >Great comment- no offense taken. I actually hesitated to post it, because 1. I’ve not actually read the book, and 2. I have friends on both sides of the fence with it. Personally, I’ve become less and less enamored with Christian self-help literature (can I hear an “it’s about time!”), but when a client shared this quote with me, I thought, “Holy Cow. The woman has read my journal.” I can’t speak to the rest of the book, or to Wild At Heart, but this little snippit spoke to me. (Tune in later for the post I’m currently working on that goes into more detail about that…)Thanks, Cindy! Bring the discussion on!

    >This will be interesting to see what response I get…maybe it’s because her husband wrote in Wild At Heart, that women de-masculinate their little boys and that’s why boys need dads. Sorry single moms. Not a fan of the Eldridges. And it seems that a lot of women are reading this particular book. Maybe I should read it too just so I can argue against it. It’s just that I’m really turned off by the things I read in John boy’s book. I have also read Waking The Dead. It’s all been said before. I love ya Lorie forgive me if I offend you with this, I just want to be challenged because it appears that I have found no one else who shares my disdain. Somebody show me the light and why these two are so fantastic.
