Hi! I’m Lorie—welcome to my good/hard life.

Coach.   Counselor.   Writer.   Speaker.   Wife.   Mom.   Spoonie.

What do YOU do?

I am not a laid-back person.

I tend toward the dramatic, the overstated, the passionate.  I tend toward staying up until 3:00 am writing because my brain won’t shut up until my thoughts are captured and turned into little bits of data stored on my hard drive.  I tend toward wanting to be and have and do it all, preferably all at once.  I tend toward biting off more than I can chew, toward overachievement, toward perfectionism, toward not doing anything halfway.

I tend to not make a good patient.

Perhaps you can relate.

  • Lorie Bio Second Box

    Sick and Tired

In a culture that continually encourages us to defy our limits and “be all we can be”, it can be maddening to be sick and tired of being sick and tired.  To be shackled by any type of chronic issue.  To be, for lack of any better way to put it, limited.

We don’t tend to like limits, do we?

Much like my daughter, we tend to chafe against limits—they choke us like a collar when there is a field before us and our legs are itching to run, wild and energetic and free.  We were made, we are certain, to run hard, run fast, run far—and run is what we desperately aspire to do.

    Except…

    …our bodies don’t always cooperate.

  • All in the family.

Over ten years ago, my wild, spirited, energetic daughter had an injury.  And then a second.  And then, she started getting sick.

Five years later, I followed suit.

Over this past decade we’ve collected diagnoses like I collect books—which is not a GOOD thing.  Chronic fatigue syndrome. Juvenile fibromyalgia. CRPS. Chronic migraine. Endometriosis. Deep vein thrombosis. POTS. hEDS.

Along the way, we’ve collected specialists, as well—internists, chiropractors, physical therapists, functional med practitioners, endocrinologists, neurologists, ENTs, gynecological surgeons, allergists, naturopaths, immunologists, pain specialists, massage therapists.

We just like to collect things, I guess.

Lorie Bio third part of story

The past decade has cost us much, in a multitude of ways.  A lot of things don’t look like we thought they would—things like high school, life-long friendships, parenting my HEALTHY child, high school graduation, family adventures, going off to college, first jobs, career plans.

Much has been lost—so much more than we could ever have imagined.

And yet…

So much more has been gained.

Through it all, I’ve learned the God who gives and takes away is just as good in the taking as in the giving.

I write about it all here—thanks so much for joining me.
