Hearth, warm and glowing

invites me to settle in,

blanket wrapped around

cold, weary body—

spirit kindled by hot

pop and crackle of flame.

My heart, gently coaxed,

releases all burdens to

drift up in thick smoke,

billowing about

the neighborhood, no longer

belonging to me.
